Our History
At John Sells Trees, every tree tells a story—and so do we.
The Early Years
John Belanger began selling trees in 1993, experimenting with different types of trees and building a foundation rooted in seasonal joy. From 1993 to 2004, John sold a variety of trees, off and on, always with a spirit of community and cooperation.
A Canadian Connection
In 2007, John shifted his focus to Canadian-grown trees, drawn to their quality and festive charm. After a brief hiatus in 2009, he returned in 2020—just when the world needed a little extra holiday cheer.
A Season of Togetherness
2020 marked a turning point. The first year back was a resounding success, not just in sales but in spirit. During a challenging time for society, the tree lot became a place of connection. We launched our Community Tree initiative, inviting neighbors to share messages of hope and generosity by placing, leaving, or taking decorations and lighting for our Community Tree. We also introduced the Angel Tree Program, helping families who might otherwise miss out on the magic of Christmas.
Challenges and Change
In 2021, we continued spreading holiday joy, but rising tariffs on Canadian trees made it difficult to sustain operations. We made the tough decision to shut down after a very short season.
Looking Ahead
We’re excited to return in 2025 with a new supplier—a family-run farm in South Windsor, Connecticut. This partnership reflects our core values: supporting local, family-owned businesses and fostering community spirit.
Our Values
• Support Local: Our longtime sponsor, 5Star Automotive, is a family-run business that shares our commitment to community.
• Celebrate Togetherness: In times of division, we believe in creating spaces where people can come together and share in holiday joy.
• Giving Back to the Community: Through programs like the Angel Trees and the Community Tree, we aim to make the holidays brighter for everyone.
We’re more than a tree lot—we’re a tradition. And we can’t wait to welcome you back.
